About Graypants
Graypants is a design studio rooted in curiosity, craftsmanship, and conscience. Founded in Seattle by architects, Graypants is known for transforming everyday materials into sculptural lighting that feels both artful and approachable. Every piece tells a story—one of thoughtful design, handcraft, and sustainable intent.
What We Do
Lighting With Soul: From iconic Scraplights made from recycled cardboard to elegant designs in metal and glass, our collections are made to spark conversation and elevate every space.
Custom Projects, Big & Small: Whether it’s tailoring an existing design or developing something entirely new, we partner with clients to create custom lighting that aligns with their vision — for retail, hospitality, and commercial spaces.
Purpose-Driven Design: Every Graypants product is made with intention — from sustainable
materials to our social impact production studio that supports individuals with barriers to employment.
Thoughtful Making
Sustainability and social impact, built into every light.
At Graypants, sustainability isn’t an afterthought—it’s central to how we design, source, and build. From our iconic Scraplights made with recycled cardboard to products assembled in our Seattle studio, we prioritize materials and processes that reduce environmental impact and celebrate craftsmanship.
Our lights are ethically sourced and finished in the U.S., where our production team includes individuals who have historically faced barriers to traditional employment—including those experiencing housing insecurity or living with disabilities. By providing stable, meaningful work, we create a supportive environment where people are empowered to grow and thrive.
We believe in making thoughtfully. That means investing in ideas that create
lasting impact—on people, on the planet, and in the spaces we illuminate. Every Graypants fixture tells a deeper story: not just of design, but of the hands that bring it to life. In our Seattle studio, each Scraplight is carefully assembled by hand, and signed inside by the maker—bringing a human, personal touch to every piece.
Design matters—because people matter.
